Descripció
Located in front of the parish church of Sant Miquel, it is one of the most significant places in the town and was probably already used in Roman and Muslim times. It is documented as early as 1254.

The name “Santa Margalida” has its origin in an event that occurred in 1490. Due to a great drought that affected the entire island of Mallorca, the town of Felanitx organized rogatives and processions to ask for water. The town’s juries decided to deepen the spring and, at 18 feet deep, it gushed out abundantly. It was July 20, 1490, the day of Santa Margalida. To commemorate this event, the spring was named after the saint and it was decided that Santa Margalida would be the patron saint of the town.

The spring has undergone many reforms. Of all, the last one stands out, carried out between 1829 and 1833 and designed by the master Llorenç Rovira, who gave it the unique horseshoe shape that it currently has. Since 2017, the image of the Nit de l'Art de Felanitx has been inspired by the Font de Santa Margalida.

Many legends have the Font as the protagonist, such as the legend of the Thirsty Horse or that of Maria Enganxa.
