Descripció
The Can Prohens house was acquired by the Felanitx Town Hall in 1970 and, after a complete renovation, it was converted into the town's Casa de Cultura (Cultural Center).
This manor house follows the traditional layout of Baroque-era Mallorcan noble architecture, with the typical division of two main floors (ground floor and noble floor) and a third level.
The ground floor is defined by a beautiful semicircular arched doorway. Next to the doorway, a stone bench and the only remaining mounting block in the village are preserved; mounting blocks were historically used for getting onto horses. These blocks disappeared from public spaces at the end of the 19th century. Next to it, following the layout of the ground floor, there are two windows with a sill and a sundial, the only decorative element on the facade. Inside, now transformed and adapted, the entrance stands out with a pebble-stone floor, centered by a column from which four basket-handle arches extend. On the columns in this room, family coats of arms are carved, as was customary in noble manor houses. Today, there is a large room dedicated to exhibitions that change periodically, and a smaller room housing the municipal tourist information office.
On the facade of the noble floor, there is a balcony with an iron railing from which the proclamation of the Sant Agustí festival is currently read. This floor is used for offices, and there is a large room, the Sala Miquel Barceló, dedicated to exhibitions.
On the third floor, there is an assembly hall, recently renovated, with a grand piano. The assembly hall hosts recitals, musical performances, theater productions, meetings, and conferences.
