Descripció
The Hospice, which we must distinguish from the Hospital, was created in 1820 to comply with a provision of the Cortes of Cádiz, which ordered the construction of buildings intended to accommodate the poor. It is documented that, at least during the year 1828, it was run by the nuns of Charity, who took care of the indigent and the most needy people. From 1883, the Village Hospital was located in the house occupied by the Hospice. In this way, the two institutions were united.

The church of Sant Alfonso, initially built to be the chapel of the Hospice building, underwent a major expansion between 1878 and 1881 that gave it greater autonomy. Pere d’Alcàntara Penya was the author of the project and designed a building that can be stylistically framed within the neo-Gothic historicism of the late 19th century.

In 1930, Guillem Muntaner carried out a new intervention. Muntaner extended the apse section and made a completely new head and a domed transept. The facade, simple and austere and with a central rose window, follows the Gothic tradition that was also applied to the parish church of Sant Miquel. On the central side, a portal opens in the form of a pointed arch that, in turn, is surrounded by another large pointed arch that simply acts as a decorative element.

The portal is flanked by two small towers that are topped by belfries. This central body ends with a gabled head decorated with corbels.

Inside we find a Latin cross-shaped plan with side chapels. The chapels are open with pointed arches and covered with a ribbed vault.

Of the intervention in 1930, the protruding transept stands out, with a large dome that rises on horns and has a star vault with stained glass windows. The central nave is covered with a ribbed vault divided into beam arches that connect its nerves with the pillars separating the chapels, which emphasizes the ascension direction. Of the interior elevation, the triforium should be highlighted, which is above the side chapels and runs the entire perimeter of the central nave and reaches the vault behind the apse.

The congregation of Alfonsines is documented in the town of Felanitx from 1866.
