Descripció
This industrial building, dedicated to the production and marketing of wine, is a good example of the importance of the wine sector in Mallorca in the second decade of the 20th century, after the phylloxera attacked all the vineyards on the island at the end of the nineteenth century.
The building was built between 1920 and 1922 by the Majorcan architect Guillem Forteza. For its construction, the typical materials of industrial architecture were used, such as concrete or cement combined with stone. From the interior, the system of arches used stands out, based on the combination of ogival and parabolic arches. This technical solution is reminiscent of the system used by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí in his buildings, but in the case of the Syndicat it has a clearly functional purpose.
Es Sindicat was declared an Asset of Historical-Industrial Interest. Since 2019 it has been owned by the Council of Mallorca.
